Planning grandparent childcare without crossed wires
A practical checklist for arranging grandparent childcare, confirming pickup times and sharing only the information needed.
Ask with a clear time window
Include the date, start and end times, pickup and drop-off location, and which children need care. Make it clear whether you are asking for help or confirming an arrangement that has already been accepted.
Confirm one caregiver
When asking several relatives, tell everyone how confirmation will work. Avoid assuming that silence means yes. Once someone agrees, let the other people know the request is covered so nobody makes unnecessary plans.
Share the essentials privately
Confirm contact details, transport arrangements and any care instructions directly with the caregiver through an appropriate private channel. Avoid posting children’s personal information in public calendars or articles.
Have a cancellation plan
Agree on how to report a change and who will arrange backup care. In Calm Mere, parents can ask several active grandparents with calendar access; the first acceptance confirms the request. A cancellation does not automatically ask the others again. See the help guide before arranging care.
